The Leaky Wiki decides their next victim of stalking: Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, best known for being the drummer with Weird "Al" Yankovic. Born in Chicago, Illinois on August 18th, 1956. TLW was only able to ask a few short questions due to security, thus being removed from the scene.
TLW: How long have you known Al? How did you become one with the band?
BS: I've known Al since we met on Sept 14, 1980. We recorded "Another One Rides The Bus" that evening, live on the Dr. Demento Show, and I've been his drummer ever since. There wasn't a band at that point, but after a few bass and guitar players, Steve and Jim became permanent members in 1982.
TLW: Do you have any side projects, or other musicians/bands you play with as well?
BS: I've always played with local (L.A.) bands before Al, and between tours. I'm currently in 4 bands besides Al's, and also sit-in or sub with bands if needed. I enjoy playing drums, but keeping busy between tours also serves to keep my chops up.
TLW: Did you see yourself where you're at now before you started?
BS: Probably not. Although I'd always wanted to be a professional drummer, I didn't have a grasp on what that might entail. I must have thought that I'd be in the studio and perhaps travel, but I had no idea there'd be music videos, electronics, a healthy drum collection, gold and platinum albums, and product endorsements in my future.
TLW: What kind of other Jobs have you had growing up in your life?
BS: I've really only worked a few jobs, a clothing store, a shoe store, a car dealer, and I also spent 14 years at a large radio network, concurrent with my career with Al. By 1996 I had left there and have been just playing drums.
TLW: Do you like to read satire and comedy?
BS: I grew up reading Mad Magazine, and I do read The Onion when I see a copy.
TLW: Does it ever get hectic working with your other bandmates?
BS: We really don't spend too much time with each other, so any personality problems don't have time to manifest themselves the way they do with many bands who live together on the road for 8 or 10 months or more at a time. At the most we'll spend about 12 weeks together, so we manage to stay sane.
