Drake Marsh OFFLINE Leaky Pants but Cool Posts: 9 Karma: 15	Maybe you guys could try adding a section for columnists or something - regular guys who can crank out opinion pieces once or twice a week. It'd be a great addition to the list of Opinion articles. Plus, it's also a nice chance for the founders to do articles unbounded by the news report-type format.

A couple suggestions:
1) Instead of showing the most recently voted-up article and then some of the categories, show several of the most recently voted-up articles. The bar by the top shows all the categories whenever you're on the front page. This will also help when articles get voted up in rapid succession, so they won't get buried.
2) I like the news ticker at the top. Maybe instead of just the headlines, people could post one-liners that would go there.

That would be genius. 1)do you mean have a module right below the latest article to show the other articles that were previously voted up? Recently? I had that not long ago but changed it. I added an opinion section, so if anyone wants to write in an editorial format, feel free. I would like to keep the front page "news-ish" though, so an editorial piece won't make the front page. It will go direct to the opinions page.

I want the Leaky Wiki to remain egalitarian. So if you want to get on the front page, your stuff has to be voted up. That's the only way. Sometime in the future maybe it would be cool to have some regular editorial writers, but you'd have to show that you would get voted up all the time anyways.

The rewards the founders will get will be being community leaders and shaping how this whole thing turns out.

I'm running out of room at the top of the page, (for extra menus). Give me like three or four future news articles that get voted to the front and I'll give them their own category. In the mean time, I'll just sort them into the existing sections.

I put the "recent" news module back up. good call.
As for the flashing news at the top, the template I'm using hasn't improved to the point to where I could easily change it. I'm keeping an eye on the forums all the time though. It's hard and boring to explain. will keep that idea for future use.

I think the separation lines should be darker and thicker. Break up the site a little better so everything doesn't really blend together.

Also, when an article makes it to the front page, have enough text as a preview. Otherwise, it's like one sentence then a bunch of negative blank space. Stretch it out or tighten up the link. As I'm looking at it right now with the "TLW Investigates" and the Justin Bieber Tattoo Editorial, there is a lot of blank space in the article preview.

I'd also maybe cut the older archive previews a little shorter so they don't go down the page TOO far. Because, again, more negative space on both sides once the side bars finish what they do.

And lastly (for now lol), I'd make The Leaky Wiki logo bigger. Have it take up more space on the main page, remind new users what site they're actually on. Don't let it sit up on the left corner all by itself.

Without a developer it's been really easy to break things. I've started to look around on the ground here in Austin. For a REAL LIFE developer instead of one overseas. They're just more responsive. Thanks again for the nuggets.
